Skin Biopsy
SA skin biopsy is a simple and safe diagnostic procedure where a small sample of skin is removed for laboratory analysis. It is commonly performed to accurately diagnose skin disorders such as infections, inflammatory skin diseases, suspicious growths, or skin cancers.
Procedure:
Under local anesthesia, a small section of skin is removed using one of the following methods:
- Punch biopsy: A circular tool removes a small, deep sample including layers beneath the surface.
- Shave biopsy: A thin layer of skin is shaved off, usually for surface lesions.
- Excisional biopsy: The entire abnormal area is surgically removed for detailed analysis.
The procedure takes only a few minutes and may involve stitches depending on the biopsy type. Post-care instructions are provided to ensure quick healing. Results typically guide further treatment or confirm diagnosis.
